We are excited to share that Gabriel N. Rosenberg’s September 2020 JAH article, “No Scrubs: Livestock Breeding, Eugenics, and the State in the Early Twentieth-Century United States,” won the Wayne D. Rasmussen Award given by the Agricultural History Society.
In this outstanding and witty piece, Rosenberg examines how livestock breeding was a popular arena for millions of Americans to explore how inheritance, value, and reproduction are interrelated. His work encourages scholars of the environment, animals, and food to consider how human interactions with animals shaped the history of eugenics and race in America.
